Acute Neck Pain
Have you woken up and not been able to turn your neck? This is the most common neck complaint I treat. It occurs when one of the joints of the neck becomes locked. It can be caused by prolonged poor posture and uncomfortable sleeping positions. This condition can be successfully treated with osteopathic treatment.
This form of headache arrises from dysfunction in the upper joints of the neck. The pain is often referred from the back of the neck to the side of the head and behind the eye. Cervicogenic headache can respond very well to treatment. Manipulation of the dysfunctional joint can bring about a quick change in symptoms.
A 'slipped disc' is actually a herniated lumbar or cervical spine intervertebral disc. In the low back it usually starts as low back pain made worse by coughing, sneezing or straining. This then progresses to pain running down the back of the leg. In the neck the pain radiates down the arm. Osteopathic treatment focuses on speeding up the healing process and assisting the body to heal.
Tension Type Headache
This type of headache arises from muscular tension in the upper shoulder, neck and jaw muscles. The pain often worsens throughout the day and commonly starts at the back of the head and wraps around to the temples and forehead. Tension type headaches can respond very well to osteopathic treatment, take home stretches and exercises.
Acute Low Back Pain
Sudden low back pain can be caused by many different structures in the low back such as the facet joint, ligaments, muscles and the intervertebral discs. Each cause of pain needs to be treated differently. Recovery depends on exactly what the cause is so I will help you figure out the cause and how to treat it.
There are many different types of migraine. The most common types are classic migraine and migraine with aura. Both types present with intense throbbing pain on one side of the head usually around the temples and can last from hours to days. The pain can be very intense. Osteopathic treatment can help to reduce the severity and frequency of migraine headache.
Low back facet joint lock
This low back condition often arises from bending to lift something and on rising the back locks up. The pain is often very intense and some patients go to hospital due to the pain. When properly diagnosed, the condition can respond very well to osteopathic treatment. Some cases can resolve within days.
Chronic Neck Pain
Chronic neck pain is very wearing on the sufferer. The pain and cause can vary widely from person to person. Causes can include: prolonged poor sitting posture, previous trauma like whiplash and repetitive strain in the workplace or from sport.
Non traumatic sporting injuries can be a result of repetitive movements or performing at a high level while the body is not in ideal alignment. As someone who exercises a lot myself, I understand what its like to not be able to exercise while injured. Osteopathic treatment can help get you back to your best faster.
